The Best Gaming Laptops

Compiling a list of best gaming laptops is not an easy thing. There are so many varieties in the market with brands like HP coming into the gaming laptop market with their HP Omen series. Also, one needs to weigh in the specs versus the affordability of the various laptops available.   There are several factors that need to be considered. They will be explained below.

Essential Factors to Consider When Buying A Gaming Laptop

Click each tab below to learn more about things to consider

After the graphics card, the RAM and the processor are the second most essential components of a gaming laptop. Today’s laptops now come with DDR4 RAM which has replaced the previous DDR3 RAM. Most gaming laptops come with 16 GB of RAM. Also, most gaming laptops come with Intel processors. The latest is the 8th gen series. Although, the 7th gen and 6th gen series are still okay. The latest processors are more power-efficient, and they generate less heat.
Power efficiency is another essential factor to consider when purchasing a gaming laptop. The more power efficient your laptop is, the less heat it generates. With power-efficient laptops, the laptop fans won’t need to work overtime trying to cool down the gaming laptop. This is one of the reasons why laptops with Intel processors are more preferred than laptops with AMD processors. A lot of manufacturers are working hard to make their gaming laptops more power-efficient. All gaming laptops in 2018 are expected to be as power-efficient as possible. When you play games on your gaming laptop for long periods of time, you won’t enjoy your gameplay that much if your laptop starts to overheat. You get lower framerates, and your laptop fans start to make more noise than usual.
The graphics card is the most important thing to consider before buying a gaming laptop. It determines how fast games can play on the laptop and how beautiful games will be. The graphics card is the number one thing that gamers check out when buying a gaming laptop. Without a good graphics card, a gaming laptop is basically the same as any other laptop. It is not worthy to be called a gaming laptop. The most popular laptop graphics cards are manufactured by Nvidia. The latest in the Nvidia graphics card lineup is the Nvidia 1000 series. The 900 and 800 series were their previous offerings.
Every gamer loves eye candy, and the display is an important component that adds to eye candy. Today’s games are all about the display. There are different types of displays available for laptops with gaming laptops opting for the best display of all. The minimum display resolution for a gaming laptop in 2018 is 1920 by 1080. There are other higher resolutions available like 4K resolution. But the 4K resolution is very demanding on graphics cards. There are not many graphics card that can output high framerates on a 4K resolution for the latest games. Also, the screen must be very bright with a good contrast ratio. It must be able to display a wide gamut of colors sharply. Most gaming laptops come with IPS and TN panels. Some new ones now come with screens having 120 Hz displays as opposed to the popular 60 Hz display you’ll find in other gaming laptops.
Storage is another essential thing to consider. The right storage device can improve read rates and make your games slightly faster. Load times will also be faster, and you won’t experience long boot times. Today, SSDs (Solid State Drives) are the standard. Great gaming laptops come with an SSD. But SSDs are quite expensive, so a lot of gaming laptops have a combo of SSD plus HDD (Hard Disk Drives). A lot of manufacturers cut cost by supplying gaming laptops with SSDs of about 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB. They then include a 1 TB or 2 TB HDD. You can install your OS on the SSD and install games on the HDD. Games come in large sizes today, so you need as much hard disk space as you can. Games like Gears of War 4 and Middle Earth: Shadow of War require over 100 GB of space.
Audio quality is another essential factor to be considered. Yes, a lot of gamers play with headphones. But, a gaming laptop must still come with powerful speakers that deliver rich sounds. Recent gaming laptops are quieter than before, so you can enjoy the audio output from the speakers more than before. Also, gaming keyboards are not as loud as before so you will hear the clear, rich sounds from the laptop speakers. Modern gaming laptops manufacturers have partnered with companies like Bang & Olufsen, Harman, JBL and others to provide laptops with high-end speakers with subwoofers. If you wish, you can connect your laptop to a home theatre system or a surround sound system.
If you want to use your gaming laptop on the go and for other purposes apart from gaming, you must consider the battery life. Most gaming laptops don’t come with great battery life because of their components consume a lot of power. But there are some laptops that have upped the ante and still manage to deliver excellent battery life. But in most cases, you may not need to consider battery life. Battery life is the least most important factor to consider when buying a gaming laptop. Other hardware components are usually considered before looking at the battery life.

Limitations of Gaming Laptops
